The Harwich team had a real family theme with no less than four father and son pairings bridged the generation gap with Andy and Captain Oly Bray at the helm, Sean Mills Senior & Junior, Guy and Lewis Williams and Mike and Owen Cowley with yet more to come from the club.
The game started at a frantic pace with neither team playing with much structure as they struggled with ball retention and handling errors neither side looked like scoring as the battle played out in the centre of the park, it took a great individual effort from Harley Hema to take advantage of Harwich territorial advantage as he battered his way through the defence from close range to touch down to break the deadlock and for the first of Eleven tries for the visitors.
Disrupted with the early losses of Hooker Andy Hannon with concussion and Wing Josh Eldridge Harwich did manage to establish a twenty eight to three lead at half time thanks to tries from Full Back Joe Francis, lock Mike Cowley and wing Lewis Williams despite the lack of cohesion in their play.
Regrouping at the break Harwich came out the stronger and looked a much slicker outfit displayed the structure to their game which was missing earlier as they exploiting the space out wide, wing Ryan Boyne being the first to reap the benefit from his team’s effort, touching down out wide as they set about putting the host to the sword.
Harwich were playing at a much higher tempo then previously with the forwards being a much tighter unit they were able to retain ball possession giving the back plenty of opportunity to attack with pace and exploit a tiring defence which produced further tries from Lewis Williams to complete his brace, Harley Hema, Craig Wilson, Paul Sewell and Owen Cowley.
Despite the score line the home side’s work ethic was fully committed and commendable throughout the contest but brought them little reward against strong opposition although there was a small reward of a single try in the closing stages of the game for the home side.
Craig Wilson put a solid shift for Harwich at 10 as he bagged a try for himself and kicked ten out of eleven conversions for an individual twenty five points tally for the day earning him the Man of the Match accolade.
