The game started at a frantic pace with Harwich looking the more likely to score, so it was against the run of play when Ipswich took the lead with a breakaway try on the wing which went unconverted for their only point of the game as Harwich shut them out.
Having gone behind this was the catalyst for Harwich to knuckle down as they applied structure to the efforts which produced a nine try haul two each for Adam Palmer, Ian Flook, Richard Miller and Shaun Fox and single for Damo Smith with Fox adding four conversions.
The young host were unable to contain the physicality of the bigger more experienced pack or the pace and game craft of the backs as they identified and exploiting the gaps and leaving Ipswich little opportunity with the ball
Ipswich to their credit didn’t give up the cause, the second half saw them get amongst it as they disrupted the tiring visitors play, halting the points tally for a period of time but they could produce little to threaten the Harwich try line.
Harwich Captain Oliver Bray whilst pleased with the win was more impressed with the manner of the performance and the attitude of the team as they got the basic right and at time produced some open flowing passages of play, demonstrating seamless passing exchanges between forwards and backs.
