The teams joined together before the start to remember Gary Fox, stand off Shaun's brother, who died a few weeks previously, with a minutes applause.
There were several new faces hoping to impress and Harwich started well putting their hosts under pressure from the start, gaining an early kickable penalty, converted by busy full back Adam Eldridge. (0 - 3).
The hosts were sparked into action by this, playing deep into the visitors half, causing the Harwich defense several problems. Their hard work paid off as they scored a converted try. (7 - 3).
The game settled for several minutes as both sides tested each others defenses. If was Felixstowe who got the break through with a fine move to score another converted try. (14 - 3). Due to a couple of injuries the H & D coaching team were forced to make some changes as the game went on. Due to a neck injury Fox was replaced at stand off by Adam Eldridge for a while. With the second half underway Eldridge made good use of his kicking ability and speed to score a try but missed the conversion. (14 - 8)
Several minutes later following some good support play by Harwich wing forward Cameron Clark crashed over for another unconverted try. (14 - 13)
With intensity building it was the home team that made the decisive break through scoring a well worked unconverted try. (19 - 13).
Harwich were unable to respond to this in the last few minutes of the game leaving Felixstowe the winners. For his hard work both in attack, defense and the lineout Cameron Clark was the H & D man of the match.
Next week will be the first league game for the Harwich 1st XV, at home to local rivals Clacton, kick off 3pm.
