It was a close encounter between the two local sides as both clubs fielded experimental squads this week as they look towards the summer break.

It was the home side who started off the stronger and after a good period of sustained pressure saw Rob Kemp touch down for the first try of the game which was converted by Fox.

As both teams try to establish dominance it was the home side claiming the territorial advantage with tactical kicking but Colchester notching up the points with two tries, Harwich drew level thanks to the efforts of Kemp once more as he charged down a clearance kick which he touched down to keep honours even at the half way point.

Harwich looked much more confident at the restart with Joe Francis stepping in at 10 played a more expansive game, keeping ball in hand and the visitors on the back foot as they struggles to contain the injection of pace from the home side which produced three tries without reply as Colchester suffered from a lack of cohesion saw Matt Green, Joe Francis and Danny Horrigan all crossed the line thanks to the efforts of the team and a single conversion from Nick Faliveno.

As Harwich continued to press the advantage throwing all into attack, Colchester struck back with an individual effort attacking from their own 22 after turnover ball to close the point gap and again with another quick converted try to keep the game in the balance.

With both teams going for the win the game was producing an entertaining spectacle for those spectators on the side line, Harwich No 9 Josh Jones looked sharp and was taking the opposition on at every opportunity as he showed his electric pace giving the home side field advantage and his side were rewarded with a further try as George Brunning and the forwards powered over the line for the game winning try which was converted by Adam Eldridge.

Harwich had a lucky escape from the final play which the Colchester wing cross the line only to spill the ball before being able to ground it.
Man of the Match was awarded to Elliott Hawkins following another impressive performance demonstrating his improvement this season
