With 10 changes to the squad from the previous week Harwich's depth was going to be tested.
Harwich received the opening kick off and went right on the attack, with the backs and forwards combining well to work their way up the pitch. Felixstowe were defending well but with the home side dominating scrums and lineouts the pressure was starting to take its toll.
Alex Cullen was first to score after nice inter-passing amongst the forwards, Kyle Hutchins converting,7-0 Harwich. Harwich were on the score sheet again 3 minutes later. From a well executed lineout move Simon Palmer burst over to score, leaving five Felixstowe players in his wake, converted by Hutchins,14-0 Harwich. The Harwich backs not to be outdone then scored through Elliot Hawkins. After moving the ball through five sets of hands, Hawkins dragged a defender over the try line out wide to score, 19-0 Harwich.
Play was then stopped for 20 minutes due to a back injury to a Felixstowe player as an ambulance was called for. It was decided to move the game over to another pitch.
From the restart Harwich scored another two tries before half time. One went to evergreen Joe Francis after ripping the ball off a Felixstowe player and falling over the try line, converted by Hutchins,26-0 Harwich. The next to score after a flowing backs move was Adam Eldridge in the left hand corner, 31-0 to Harwich at half time.
Unfortunately, Harwich were only able to score two more tries after the half time break. With a mixture of sloppy play from Harwich and Felixstowe slowing the ball down the game limped to full time. One more try each to Francis and Palmer ended the scoring,41-0 to Harwich.
Harwich will be happy with the bonus point win and no new injury concerns as they look forward to next weeks away game at Aldeburgh and Thorpeness.
