Twos start with a win.

Within an experienced Harwich side were two youngster making their debut to senior rugby Ben Eldridge and Josh Newlyn both performing well, Harwich started the stronger of the 2 sides with Mark Bowe pulling the strings a try from number 8 Simon Palmer came from some quick thinking and powerful running he crossed the line to open the scoring. Conversion was successful from fly half Sammy Male. 

Halstead then found their feet and got a try back of their own, but their conversion was not successful. This saw out the first half at 7-5 to the hosts. Half-time saw the introduction of semi-retired veteran Joe Francis to the game along with Joe Sciberas and part time player Simon Keen for Harwich in their push to further consolidate a slender lead.

It didn't take long for the hosts to get back in the rhythm of the game adding another try from Danny Horrigan. Sean Mills was the proverbial nuisance as he played his usual full on game keeping the opposition on their toes and with the forwards working hard Simon Pitham, Alfie Milne and Richard Woods, Sandy Sanders Crook, Grant Rayner, Mark Green, and Ben Eldridge in numerous scrums left the backs to work their magic and for Simon Keen to cross the line for the conversion again to be added by Sam Male.

Despite Halstead’s best efforts and determination to never give up they could not contain the Harwich advances as they stepped up another gear with some good strong running and support play the try tally was finished by Alfie Milne and yet another conversion added by Male to leave the final score 26 – 5.

Man of the Match was awarded to Simon Palmer following a trade mark performance.

Harwich have a week off this week as they make preparation to entertain Brightlingsea 1’s on 03/10/15.
