Harwich travelled to play Ipswich YM on Saturday looking to continue on their great form which has seen them lose only once in all competitions.

YM however had other ideas and made Harwich look anything but second in the league.

Harwich kicked off and began putting pressure on YM right away but couldn't break YM's defence. Alex Cullen left the pitch with a pulled hamstring, which allowed Jack Cairns to take the field.

Harwich were struggling to mount any long periods of attack with a lack of precision and a mounting penalty count making YM's job a lot easier. Harwich finally managed to get some points after maintaining possession, Kyran Green finished off a flowing move to give Harwich a 5-0 lead. The score would remain that way at half time.

The halftime talk from coach Shane Manning was simple, get your heads in the game and go back to the structure and game plan.

The chat seemed to do the trick as Harwich scored from the restart. With YM’s kick off going short Robert Edgar caught the ball, he side stepped through the entire YM forward pack then out paced the covering winger to score under the posts, Shaun Fox converted,12-0.

Edgar then scored again after the Harwich scrum turned over the ball, this was again from 50m out, Edgar showing his pace once again, try unconverted, 17- 0.

Any thoughts Harwich had of running away with the game quickly disappeared as YM punished some sloppy Harwich back play to score in the corner, 17-5 Harwich. YM then scored again after more sloppy defence to really put pressure on Harwich,10-17 Harwich.

Even though Harwich weren't at their best they still managed to score another try to James King to wrap up the win and secure the four try bonus point, final score 22-10.

Harwich were glad to get off the pitch after a less than satisfactory performance. They now look to put this below par performance behind them and focus on their Suffolk Cup Semi final against high flying Sudbury, easily there hardest test for many years. Kick-off is 2.30pm at Low Road.
