In the first five minutes it looked like Harwich were going to do a demolition job. Man of the match, captain, Sean Mills made one of his trademark breaks through the midfield. His pass found the supporting Robert Edgar who weaved his way through the covering defence before scoring in the corner. Sam Male placed another difficult conversion through the posts to put Harwich 7-0 up.
Five minutes later Harwich’s pressure told again on Woodbridge when Male converted a penalty in front of the posts. With ten minutes gone and Harwich dominating the game it seemed only a matter of time before they would add to their score.
It was to Woodbridge’s credit that they didn’t fold and came back through a penalty making the score 10-3. With both side playing out a war of attrition on the halfway line it was difficult to see where another score would come from.
But on the half hour Harwich produced the move of the game. Jason Hatcher took the ball on in the middle of the park. The ball found its way out to Mills who's swift pass picked out Nick Faliveno to score yet another try for Harwich. Faliveno broke the defensive line with his electric pace and finished the move by running in from 30 yards out. With Male converting again Harwich were 17-3 up at half time.
In the second half Woodbridge fought hard to get back into the game but just couldn’t break the Harwich defence. Again the game was played in the centre of the pitch with Harwich unable to gain complete control. Francis made several breaks from outside centre but Harwich were unable to covert the opportunities into points.
It wasn’t until the 55th minute that Male added another penalty to make the score 20-3. Although the game now seemed beyond Woodbridge they didn’t give up.
During the closing stages Harwich managed to add a further try when after prolonged pressure Edgar scored his second try in the corner and capped off a exceptional performance from the young second row. With the conversion missed Harwich had won a tough game 25-3.
