Although Wisbech were unbeaten this season and second in the league Harwich should never have let them have this runaway win.

Wisbech 27 Harwich and Dovercourt 3

With their four tries Wisbech gained a bonus point and left Harwich empty handed after the long trip to the Fens.

This certainly was a game of two halves. The first opened with Wisbech camped on Harwich try line. Time after time they would attack only to be held up by some terrific defensive work by Harwich. Getting increasingly frustrated by Harwich’s hard work Wisbech began to run out of ideas as to how to breach the defensive wall. After ten minutes Harwich started to counter attack. The skipper, Sean Mills Jnr, making his first start of the season made big tackles in midfield and started to find gaps in the Wisbech backs.

But it was the Harwich forwards who really started to turn the screw by dominating the scrum. Man of the match, prop, Jay Hatcher caused the Wisbech front row problems all afternoon as did Shane Manning and Paul Sewell. After 18 minutes Harwich won a penalty when the Wisbech scrum folded. Sam Male converted the kick and put Harwich ahead.
With the first half settling into an even contest it looked like the game was going to be very tight. However on 30 minutes Harwich lost the ball off the back of their own scrum which allowed Wisbech to run through and score. With the conversion missed Wisbech went in at half time 5-3 up.

The second half was a totally different game. Within ten minutes Wisbech had scored a good running try down the right to put them 12-3 in the lead. Time and again Harwich missed tackles or players were left isolated. By 55 minutes Wisbech had scored another try and Harwich couldn’t get out of their own half.

Ten minutes later Wisbech took a quick tap penalty in front of Harwich’s posts and scored again. The bonus try came with ten minutes of the game to go and summed up Harwich’s second half display as the young Wisbech winger ran from the half way line to score by the posts. With the score 27-3 Harwich had suffered their second defeat of the season.

This week Harwich play West Norfolk at home with a 3pm kick off
