Harwich travelled to local rivals Clacton for the next round of their league fixtures

It was clear from the start of the game that the home side were keen to get revenge on the earlier season defeat by bringing a high level of intensity and physicality from the first kick off.

Straight from the start the home side went on the attack and putting together strong phase play moved the ball from side to side to score in the corner to open the scoring for the afternoon.

After a number of strong ball carries Clacton were back on the attack moving the ball well through the hands and putting the Harwich defence under immense pressure once again. Strong defence from George Brunning and James King helped keep the home attack at bay, but Harwich were unable to hold out and Clacton went over in the corner again after some strong carrying from their centres making the score 10-0.

Harwich started to put some good phase play together themselves and started to build some pressure but again the Clacton defence were relentless in strong hard hitting tackles and eventually forced an error and turned the ball over. From the resultant scrum a penalty was given and Clacton kicked into the corner. From the lineout the pack was able to drive forward and as the ball came out they were able to cross the line for a third try which was converted to make it 17-0 at half time.

After a punishing half Harwich were forced into emptying their bench due to injuries and started the second half with some battered bodies on the field.

Clacton continued to press their advantage and even after some strong defence from the travelling team, the home side continued to generate chances and it wasn't long before they were over for the bonus point try after 5 minutes following half time making the score 24-0.

Harwich started to pick up further injuries and were down to 13 men going into the 50th minute and Clacton pressed their 2 man advantage to score 2 more tries in quick succession making the score 38-0.

Harwich then went down to 12 men but in the true spirit of the game, the home side loaned a player to the travelling team and also dropped a player themselves to make the game more evenly matched.

Even with the numbers evened up the home side superiority continued and before the end of the game they were able to sore a further try making the final score 45-0 and round off a disappointing day for the travelling Harwich team.

Harwich will try to change their fortunes next week when they host Billericay at the low road, 2:30 pm Kick Off
