Writtle Wanderers 29 - 00 Harwich & Dovercourt

H&D welcomed the return of front row veterans Simpson and Sewell. Whilst special mention must go to Josh Allen, making his debut for the 1st XV.

The match started with Writtle having the majority of possession, tirelessly testing the H&D defence. Although the visitors defence was resilient, H&D were unable to clear their lines and the constant pressure eventually resulted in a Writtle converted try. 7-0.

H&D then had a good period of possession and started to play to patterns. But H&D were left unrewarded after several good phases of play in the oppositions twenty two.

Before the half time break Writtle were again on the front foot and after several quick phases scored their second try of the afternoon. The conversion was missed from the touch line, leaving the score at 12-0 at half time.

Injuries to forwards Keen, Barral and Kemp forced H&D to make changes during the second half, making the 12 point deficit more of a challenge.

Writtle continued to dominate the game. With players now playing out of position, H&Ds defence was often unorganised, leaving Writtle plenty of space to exploit. The home side going on to score three second half tries, with no reply from the visitors. Final score Writtle Wanderers 29 - 00 Harwich & Dovercourt.

H&D players and coaches will be disappointed with the loss, but will now look to next weekends league fixture against Clacton (away), 2pm KO.
