Harwich made the trip to Haverhill last Saturday to contest the final of the Suffolk Plate.

Haverhill had a very big side and would have fancied their chances against the smaller Harwich team. From the first whistle however any thoughts Haverhill might of had of pushing Harwich around would have quickly disappeared as Harwich took the game to their host's.

The pressure told right away with Haverhill giving away two kickable penalties that were converted by Shaun Fox, 0-6 Harwich. The front row of Leeks, Manning and Sewell were dominating their opposition. It was from this dominance that Harwich turned the Haverhill scrum over, Kyran Green picked up the ball from the base of the scrum and dragging a couple of Haverhill defenders with him scored the first try of the game in the left hand corner, un-converted, 0-11 Harwich.

Haverhill had their moments during the half but the young Harwich side turned anything they tried away. Harwich scored their second try after the Haverhill 10 was caught in huge a tackle by captain Kyle Hutchins which dislodged the ball, Fox reacted first to pick up the loose ball and then cleverly off-loaded out of a tackle to Blacker who ran in to score a good try, converted by Fox, to take the score to 0-18 Harwich.

The rest of the half was played out in the Haverhill half but with no further score. Coach Manning urged his players to speed up the tempo of the game for the second half sensing that the big Haverhill team was starting to fade.

From the restart Haverhill threw everything at the Harwich defence which held firm, however Haverhill were rewarded with a penalty which they converted for their first points of the final.

Harwich introduced Rob Kemp, Oly Bray and Tom Fitch to the game and they added some impact and Harwich began to take control of the final. From a scrum in the Haverhill half scrum-half Blacker ran at the Haverhill line, he off-loaded out of a tackle to George Brunning who dived over to score another try, 3-23 Harwich.

The last few moments of the final played out and Blacker scored his second try by darting over from a ruck on the Haverhill line. Final score 3-28 Harwich.

As the final whistle went the Harwich supporters joined the players on the pitch to begin the celebrations as Harwich & Dovercourt had once again won the Suffolk Plate.

Harwich have a week off now and will be in action against Thorpeness at home on the 20th December, a side they have beaten already this season.
