Harwich Owls welcomed local rivals Woodbridge to Low Road on Sunday for the latest NC 1 league contest.

Unlike the previous week The Owls were quick out the blocks putting Woodbridge under sustained pressure, quick phase play and good support lines by Beth Lemessurier, Sian Smith and Sophia Tricker, which has become a trademark for this season, saw The Owls push The Amazons back to there 22m line where ex Amazon Carmel Leak ran a great crash ball line at speed off Dani Allsopp to crash over the try line near the posts, Mim Pearson converted for a 7-0 Owl lead.

Harwich soon increased their lead by putting Woodbridge under a barrage of attacking front foot ball, the forward pack recycled play across the field from left to right and when Sophia Tricker took a pass from Mimi Montgomery 5m out she brushed aside the would be tacklers to score, the conversion attempt missed for a 12-0 lead.

The Owls had the bit firmly between their teeth and soon added to their lead.
Mim Pearson put a long clearance kick from the halfway line behind The Amazon defence which turned them and had them running to cover the rolling ball, a great chase by The Owls forced a turnover at the breakdown and a clean break off the ruck by Mimi Montgomery saw her crash over the line with Mim Pearson adding the extras it was now 19-0.

Harwich again forced their way into The Amazon half but a knock on gave a scrum to Woodbridge on their 22m line, the Harwich scrum had the measure of Woodbridge and Chloe Inglis hooked the ball against the head and turned the ball over, as the melee moved forward the ball popped out the back of the scrum to debutant scrum half Lillie Barnett, she took off before the Amazons had chance to react and rounded the covering defenders to score, Pearson again added the extras to give The Owls a much deserved 26-0 half time scoreline.

The second half was a more stoic affair with a lot of injury stoppages which resulted in a drop off of intensity by The Owls, although Woodbridge never looked as if they could breach the impressive Harwich defence The Owls only managed one more try scored by Mimi Montgomery, this did mean they picked up the bonus point for the win to keep the pressure on league leaders Hackney, trailing them by a single point.
