A strong Harwich Owls side took to the field at Low Road on Sunday to face a much improved Chelmsford side.

Harwich started quickly with the Owls forwards stamping their authority on the play and that was the key to how the game developed. Mimi Montgomery made a great break from the halfway line after some quick hitting phases left the Chelmsford defence clutching at air as she touched down under the posts for her first try of three for afternoon, Annalise Allan converted for a 7-0 lead.

The Owls scored a second shortly after which resulted in Chelsea Shand getting over the line after some strong running and great off loads from forwards Mimi Montgomery, Sam Willmott and Sian Smith. The conversion was missed but Harwich led 12-0.

Kimberley Hutchins extended the lead soon after the restart with the Owls forwards again dominating the ruck area and with some quick recycled ball Hutchins raced clear to score, the conversion was missed for a 17-0 lead.

Hutchins scored her second of the day when a break from her centre partner Becki Hare put her clear to score under the posts which Annalise Allan converted for a 24-0 lead.

Just before the half time break Hutchins completed her hat trick after more some superb handling and quick passing which Chelmsford could not defend, the conversion was missed but Harwich ended the half with a 29-0 lead.

After the break The Owls again were quick out of the blocks and some hard hitting tackles saw the ball turned over in a ruck from which Montgomery took the ball and sprinting clear she scored her second try next to the posts making for an easy conversion and a 36-0 scoreline.
Chelmsford then managed to score after a well worked move which gave their fly half Sorcha Ni Tarpaigh chance to touch down out wide, the conversion was missed giving a 36-5 scoreline.

Harwich rounded off the scoring when some intense pressure forced Chelmsford to concede a penalty on their 22m line, Montgomery took it with a quick tap catching the opposition defence flat footed and this allowed her to touch down for her third try of the match, the conversion was missed rounding out the game 41-5 to The Owls.

Harwich are now second in the division a point behind leaders Woodbridge who they meet at Woodbridge in their next league match.
The Owls next game is an away trip to Wymondham for an Intermediate cup match on 15th October which will be a tough encounter.
