In dreadful conditions the Owls quickly took the game to the Medics but strong defence from the home team repelled the attack. ‘The Hooters’ again gained the upper hand and after some good phases the ball was spun out to Mimi Montgomery who bulldozed her way through three defenders to score from twenty metres out.
The Medics replied quickly with some fluent handling and a disorganised Owls defence allowed the home centre to score. As the conditions worsened, Harwich upped the tempo of the game and strong running from Sophia Tricker, Yas Amber and Naomi Dobner made great gains and from one of the breakdowns Annalise Allan glided past three defenders to score a good try and then added the conversion to give the Owls the lead at half time.
The home side started strongly in the second half but good defensive and powerful tackling from all the team but particularly Mimi Montgomery, Debbie Lammond and Sam Edwards kept them at bay. Harwich started to gain the upper hand and the Medics were starting to struggle with the powerful running of the visitors who went close to scoring on countless occasions only to be stopped near the line by superb tackling. As the game was ending Yas Amber picked up from a breakdown and burst through the defence for a well earned try. Annalise Allan converted the try and the whistle blew for the end of the match to give the Owls their first victory.
